Paper 1 mock exam learner response
1) Type up any feedback in full (you do not need to write mark/grade if you do not wish to).
Now read through the genuine AQA mark scheme. This is vital as the paper was an official exam paper and therefore the mark scheme tells us a lot about what AQA are expecting us to produce.

WWW: Matas, a strong attempt at this mock, your section A was mostly solid - your approach to the unseen media products and then named CSP's has always been a real strength
EBI: Your main priority should be practicing 20 mark essays. At times, I felt you were drifting away from the focus of the Q's
2) Write a question-by-question analysis of your performance. For each question, write how many marks you got from the number available and identify any points that you missed by carefully studying the AQA indicative content in the mark scheme:
Example: Q1: 4/8 marks
Section A
Q1 - 5/8 - Needed to make sure to answer using genre theorist as the question is on genre conventions
Q2 - 10/12 - Done mostly well just needed to add more historical and cultural references using the two texts given
Q3 - 6/9 - I needed to provide more examples of both positive and negative stereotypes from the CSP whilst also using a theorist to back it up and reference historical and cultural contexts for the music video
Q4 - 11/20 - Failed to clearly outline what was needed for myths communicating through binary opposition and needed to evaluate the strengths and weaknesses of Levi Strauss' ideas on structuralism more effectively
Section B
Q5.1 - 3/3 - All good
Q5.2 0/3 - Understand what is meant by Textual poaching and example of it
Q6 - 7/9 - Went pretty well I just needed to make it clearer why it was this traditional marketing that was useful for medium to low budget film makers more effectively with real life examples from BBTL e.g. interviews on the One show.
Q7. - 12/20 - Needed to better reference BBC newsbeat using the correct statistics and evidence whilst also providing a clearer argument for why WOTW was not targeting any specific audiences whilst using theorists to back it up
3) Look at Question 4 - a 20-mark essay evaluating Levi-Strauss's binary opposition theory. Write an essay plan for this question using the indicative content in the mark scheme and with enough content to meet the criteria for Level 4 (top level). This will be somewhere between 3-4 well-developed paragraphs plus an introduction answering the question planned in some detail.
Intro - Setting out an argument for why Myths are or aren't being communicated through binary opposition
P1- Score hair cream and its binary oppositions
P2- Sephora's lack of binary oppositions
P3- Argument for why Levi Strauss structuralism is or isn't valid using and comparing the two CPS's to do so
Conclusion - Summarising what has been argued and linking back to the introduction
4) Based on the whole of your Paper 1 learner response, plan FIVE topics / concepts / CSPs / theories that you will prioritise in your summer exam Media revision timetable.
Levi Strauss Structuralism
Textual Poaching
Genre conventions
Ghost Town Representation
BBC Newsbeat All of it
